Poverty is different in New York City

All of us In the movement for a real living wage celebrate the hard work of many which has brought Gov.  Andrew Cuomo to support a wage of $15.00 per hour for all workers in the State.

But New York City is different.  As pages on this website show, a single mother with just one child cannot live anywhere in New York City without a wage of $20.00 per hour and pay for shelter, food, clothing, health and child care.

People ask, How will small businesses pay for it?  Where is the legislative bill?

These are not the right questions right now.  The right question is, How can a city wake up to the disaster of income inequality which is driving its least paid, least powerful workers into the dust?  We believe that the heart of New York City must move first.
